New Program for 2012

Oak Mountain Youth Football and Cheerleading (OMYFC) is a member of the Jefferson-Shelby Youth Football League (JSYFL) www.jsyfl.net which is comprised of different communities in the Birmingham area. The JSYFL is a competitive football league that currently includes Cahaba Valley (Briarwood), Chelsea, Helena, Homewood, Hoover, John Carroll, Pelham, Spain Park, Thompson, and Vestavia Hills. All games are played against teams from each of these respective cities/parks.
This youth program is focused on teaching the fundamentals of football while being competitive within the league.

Oak Mountain Youth Football and Cheerleading (OMYFC) will also field teams in the Over-the-Mountain Recreational Youth Football League for players zoned in the Oak Mountain school district. The OTM league is for players that live in the Over-the-Mountain areas (Hoover, Homewood, Vestavia, Pelham, Shelby County and others). The philosophy of the program is to develop football fundamentals, encourage participation, and have fun playing the game. The OTML requires restricted team sizes, limited school night practice schedules, and mandatory play guidelines.

Ages/Grades Served:

1st through 6th graders play with their grade, subject to age and weight requirements.

Guaranteed Minimum Playing Time:

OMYFC does not have a minimum play time guarantee. The league is competitive in nature therefore, there is no rule requiring a minimum level of play during games. Game participation is based on each player's skill level as demonstrated in practice.

Each player must play no less than 50 percent of the game. Teams will consist of a target of 18 players with a maximum of 22 because each player will have a starting position on the team.

Practice Schedule:

Practices begin in mid July. Teams normally practice three to four days per week in the pre-season and two to three times per week during the regular season.

Practice will start in early August. A team's week of practice cannot be more than 5 hours per week prior to the first game. When the game season starts, a team may have only 2 contacts per week during the school nights. For example, if a team has a week night game, they may practice one other school night during that week and often on Sunday afternoon.

Games:

All games will be played during the week on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.
